2 out of 5 stars still at regular retail price?   March 30, 2008

Why so much when microsoft itself has lowered the price to $50.00 and you can get it at that price or less everywhere else? The item is being phased out, just like the HD format. There will be no more movies made in this format. Netflix is expected to drop HD within a year. Blockbuster will probably do likewise.

1 out of 5 stars Microsoft's biggest flop after "Microsoft Bob"   February 20, 2008

HD-DVD is dead. This is an expensive brick. If you want to get into HD movies and OWN your movies and take them anywhere you want, without having to pay through the nose for poor-quality broadband downloads or DRM-infested "rentals" get either a stand-alone Blu-Ray player or if you also need a HD games console, a PS3, which currently at $399 offers the best bang for the buck.

1 out of 5 stars Think before you purchase???   November 25, 2007

I bought this item last year in November after Thanksgiving and it stopped working by early March. Just out of warrenty time...I called Microsoft and they said it would be $60.00 to have it fixed...which I might still do. But these obviously have problems. One day I after having numerous problems with it the whole time, like freezing, having to restart, etc., I went to turn it on and it wouldn't even power up. That was the last time it worked, so if I were you I would tend to think you are better off with a normal stand-alone HD or BLU-RAY player.

4 out of 5 stars Great add on solution, impressive performance, run really hot   November 21, 2007

After seeing a HD DVD for the first time, and comparing with Blue ray, I decided to make the jump and buy a 360 elite and the HD DVD ad on. It is the perfect combination for me, as I enjoy playing on Xbox Live, and like the HD feature. The image is perfect, far deeper than on BR, and it does not lockup or freeze like movies on a blue ray disc.

Minor grip: this thing needs to be left outside, not enclosed in a cabinet. It will run really hot, and the fan will spoil the sondtrack.
