Great cable but may not fit your Xbox December 1, 2008 First, the quality of this cable really is superb. The contacts all look gold-plated and the construction is solid. There are only two problems which prevented this from getting 5 stars:
1) The shrink tubing that is supposed to keep the audio cables separated from the video cable was not heated and shrunk. This can be fixed if you have a heat gun but come on - pretty sad it was missed. This might have been an isolated incident, however.
2) More important: This cable is NOT designed to fit into a first-generation Xbox. I have two different Xboxes, one a first-release and the other a later version. The later revision model's AV port has a plastic top and a metal bar along the bottom and this cable fits and works fine. The earlier model's AV port is entirely plastic and this cable is a VERY tight fit. It took some (very careful) effort to plug it in, and once in it does not go all the way into the slot. However, if you manage to plug it in, it does work and the quality is fine. (Note I am not talking about the original Xbox versus the Xbox 360. I am talking about release versions of the original Xbox.)
Going from composite video (just the yellow cable) to this component cable really is a huge jump in quality. The image is sharper and there is none of that annoying dot-crawl so common with composite video. As should be obvious from the picture, the sound is NOT HD, but just the standard left/right audio. I've noticed no problems with noise or lines as other reviews have claimed to have.
Overall it's a great cable when considering the price. Just be careful if you have an older Xbox when plugging the cable in. You may have to wiggle it in and out several times before getting it in place.
Original Xbox Component Cables that work great! November 22, 2008 What needs to be said? These are component cables for the xbox 1/ original xbox (not the xbox 360). They allow your system to be viewed accurately on an HDTV. They are cheap, and they work great! No complaints here!
Xbox Component cable July 26, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Component cables for the orig Xbox system. Its not much u can say in a review about this. It helps connect the older system to newer TV's and receivers. If u got a TV that can do different picture n sound configurations for the different connections, this will be fine.
Great cables with little/no noise March 13, 2008 Last Christmas I got these for my Xbox since I got an HDTV, and these cables are amazing. The colors look SOOOOO much more rich then composite (which I upgraded from since my old TV only had RF and composite in), and everything is a lot sharper then before too. I saw a review that said there was lots of noise with these cables. That's not what I saw when I played my Xbox with these. To avoid noise, avoid lots of other cables when routing video/audio cables (composite, s-video, component, and mabey HDMI if theres lot of cables), and don't coil the cables too. That crates interference from the cable itself.
Also to those who don't like it not having optical out: suck it up, and deal. Get the Microsoft Xbox AV Pack Advanced (which I also own), and deal with s-video if you're whining so much. While S-Video only does 480i, it still kicks the crap out of composite. Besides, all decent receivers made today support Dolby Pro Logic II, so you get a kind of "fake" 5.1 surround sound from stereo (basically it tries to guess which sound goes out what speaker, and it does a pretty good job). Just remember to set it to "game mode" if you go the PL II route, or it won't work right with video games.
Bottom Line: If you get the component Xbox cables, you'll get awesome video with pretty good sound. If you get the Advanced AV pack, and you'll get pretty good video with awesome sound. Though I'm recommending you get both, since both are really cheap. That way you can customize what experience you want like I do.
A solid purchase. March 1, 2008 This cable was a tremendous upgrade over the standard cable I had before, and was worth every penny of the purchase price. I couldn't be more pleased.
