1 out of 5 stars Quite disapointing...   November 13, 2008
The headset is not comfortable, falls off too easily, the rumble is too weak but most of all the surround sound is mediocre! (I don't know if it's because the headset I've been sent is broken but) The rear speakers sounds like a $2 radio speaker, it really kills the ambiance and definitely doesn't help in an fps shooter game to figure out where you're getting shot from.

The mic is ok but I wish it sounded better that the $15 one that I've had for over 10 years. I think the worse part about the mic is that if you use the little box and connect via the digital input you'll have to figure out a way to connect it to your mic input of your sound card and no adapter from mini-jack to regular jack is in the box but even worse if like me your sound card works either in digital or analog but not both at the same time then even if you find a way to plug your mic in it will probably be useless. :/

I was so disappointed that I asked for a refund after only 2 days of trying to convince myself that I did a good purchase.

4 out of 5 stars Comfort, Clarity and Clear Imaging   November 12, 2008
I've had these headphones for a few months and I have to say they are fantastic. They're comfortable enough to wear for hours with no stress and minimal ear fatigue. The ability to dial in front/center/rear/sub individually from a hardware dial system is awesome. With an Xbox 360, you can use the center dial as in-game speech control vs front/back for game sounds.

The only drawbacks are 1.) the mic gooseneck has become a little loose over time (due to overuse) with the wires at the back becoming exposed; and 2.) the system doesn't seem to keep the volume setting once the 360 is powered off (meaning you have to turn the volume down every time you turn the 360 on). I've gotten around this by setting my dials very low (front/rear set at 3-4 of 10).

Mic cable is a good length, but could use a few more inches for putting the controller down and taking the headphones off. Not even a real issue.

If you plan on running this across a decent length (say 15+ feet) you might want to get a longer cable before the main box, as I nearly pull the unit off my entertainment center when leaning back too far (or the dog runs across the living room and snags the cable). A longer cable would allow you to keep the box closer to your sitting position.

Now if only they could make this in wireless...

5 out of 5 stars Tritton AX360 Review   November 9, 2008
Great Headset. Its built to last, and despite being a little heavier than the competition, it still feels comfortable on the head. The only gripe is not having in line mute controls for use with the XBOX, but they are adding that feature to their newest headset the AXPro.

1 out of 5 stars NO BASS!   November 7, 2008
I picked these up after reading all the rave reviews and I'm completely disappointed. The surround sound works but the bass is terrible. I compared them to my old 50 dollar sony headphones and while they don't have surround sound I prefer them for my gaming. The guns and grenades in any shooting game sound pretty bad compared to my cheaper headphones, it's a shame because if these headphones had even decent bass they would be incredible...but they don't.
If you have never played games using another set of headphones maybe you won't mind but I cannot recommend buying the AX360 5.1 as I completely regret my purchase, get something else.

5 out of 5 stars Very good purchase   November 7, 2008
I've been using these for about 1 year now and they've been great. With some care toward how you configure them (which can be done on the fly, as there are inline controls) they provide realistic, great surround.

I've tested them in Oblivion, Fallout 3, and many FPSes on the Xbox, and I can say the atmosphere is truly enhanced. I can often tell which direction the bullets are coming from in a 'blind' test, with my eyes closed. I have noticed a small disconnect or 'interval' between the front and side channels that doesn't seem to exist between the side and rear, which have a smoother transition-- but I had to try hard to notice it once I leveled the individual volumes. Really its only apparent if you stand in front of a fixed noise in game and spin slowly.

I've been pleased all year -- but just now I was motivated to write this review because I tried them on my PC for the first time. Using the INCLUDED 4-way adapter, I hooked it up. I was afraid that without the amplifier (still hooked up to the Xbox) the sound would be weak on the PC, but I was completely wrong! This made such a difference vs regular headphones, it changed my mind about purchasing external speakers for my laptop. YMMV, though, as my Dell Studio has dual headphone jacks that can be configured to act and front and center speakers. So for me these were an elegant solution for 3.1 sound. If your compy only has one jack and no optical, as most laptops do, you are probably better going with a USB set if you won't be using these much on your Xbox. Desktop users probably have multichannel on most motherboards these days. Look for separate green, orange, and black 3.5mm plugs on your MB or sound card.

The amplifier is very confusing if you want to change advanced settings like surround timings. It involves holding down buttons while flicking switches, etc, and the LEDs don't indicate anything. Its a black box. But I left it on the factory config and I haven't had issues.

Overall these have been extremely beneficial for gaming while the girlfriend is sleeping or watching TV. Real surround on the cheap.
