2 out of 5 stars Try it out with your TV before buying   May 17, 2008

I was a bit wary about buying this cable, as the online reviews for it are pretty contradictory. Some people claim it has a "washed out" look while others swear by it. As it turns out, I wound up falling into the former camp. While I can notice a slight increase in sharpness, the colors are indeed washed out. Even with my colorblind eyes, I was shocked by how much this sucker dulls the color.

Considering that there is such a split in the number of people who like this cable and those who don't, I think the quality varies substantially on different televisions. I own a Samsung LCD, and my VGA adjustable picture settings are basically limited to contrast and brightness, with no control over the color settings. Some TVs apparently are a bit more generous with their VGA settings, and it's likely that with some tweaking, this cable works nicely. Given my setup though, I'd rather stick with component cables. If I have to choose between rich colors and a barely noticeable sharper picture, I'll take the colors. My best advice is to try to borrow a friend's cable before purchasing and see how it works on your TV.

5 out of 5 stars Looks amazing on tv!   May 9, 2008
This cable is great. It doesn't take up any HDMI port or normal video ports, so you can keep those free. But you still get the full HD experience, which looks amazing. The cable was brand new when I got it, and have not had any problems with it. I would recommend it to anyone who is not one of those "I gotta have an HDMI cable just to have it" people. It works just the same, and gives an amazing image. Well worth the price!

5 out of 5 stars Works great on a CRT.   May 9, 2008
This cable works great for CRT monitors. I've heard rumors of ghosting and blurriness which my monitor has had problems with but this cable is shielded enough to prevent that. The image was perfectly clear on my 21' Dell CRT.
While I couldn't get it display at 1080p on the monitor, it does come in nicely at 1366768. It had more to do with the fact that a CRT monitor is not widescreen.
The audio works pretty good out of my computer sound system.

5 out of 5 stars Good for games...great for movies   May 6, 2008
I got this cable for my 37" LG 720p LCD simply because DVDs looked pretty fuzzy and pixelated coming over component cables.

...I'm happy to say that fuzziness is completely gone with the VGA cable. Over VGA, the 360 up-converts the 480p DVD into 720p, and while it's not HD by any means, it's far better than 480p. To be fair, though, the final image is a bit "soft", and while it's not blurry by any means, the image does look slightly hazy...but, if I had to make a choice between the pixelated signal over component and the softer signal over VGA, I prefer the VGA.

As for games, there really isn't too much of a difference. Things look a little more detailed, but it's not nearly as much of a quality jump as I saw with DVDs. But, to be fair, with this extra detail also comes some slight aliasing (jagged edges on polygons). The aliasing isn't really that bad, but it might bother some people.

Overall, this is a great investment, much better than buying a $90 up-convert DVD player that can only use the up-convert feature over HDMI connections.

Word of warning, though. My TV is lucky to have a VGA plug-in on the back, but I'm not sure how many other LCDs have the same port...so, be sure to check that before you go out and buy the cable.
