MUST HAVE FOR HD!!! June 10, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
These cables can upscale/upconvert SD-DVD's (normal DVD's) to 1080p!! They are great for TV's that work as a monitor as well. I used to have to switch the slot taken up by the 360 component cables on my TV with the Wii component cables, but now, because I have the VGA cables, which take up a different slot, I can now play Wii and 360 without switching the slot!
Pros: -Amazing graphical difference and smoothness factor when compared to component or composite cables. -Upconverting/Upscaling SD-DVD's to 1080p is possible with these cables. -The cables' physical quality is outstanding (very, very thick outer protection and very durable). -Item comes with all necessary items: Cables, and especially the adaptors.
Cons: -NONE!!!
Work great! June 8, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I wanted these because they not only out-put through VGA which can match my Vizio's 37" native rez of 1366X768, but becuase they also have TOSLINK optical audio out. That way I get true Dolby Digital 5.1 for all my games with my home theater system.
Ever since the Spring '07 Xbox 360 dashboard update, VGA cables are no longer plagued by the "Washed out" issue everyone complains about.
The update added the ability to change the "reference levels" to three different settings, which really means changing the black contrast levels the 360 is outputting. (the expanded setting being recommended for LCD's) And I got to tell you the 360 looks great, I prefer these over Component cables. (Which also only have analog audio L+R, not fiber optic audio.)
The biggest other difference you will notice is that when using component cables, a good portion of the image is cropped off of the edges. The VGA cables dont do this.
The cable has been available since the 360's launch, and has been readily available. June 2, 2008 The Xbox 360 VGA HD AV Cable has a DV-15S VGA connector and stereo audio cables, plus a SPDIF port for connection to a Dolby Digital receiver, similar to the high definition Xbox 360 Component HD AV Cable. The VGA cable is rather thick, but not so thick as to be inflexible. The left and right RCA audio jacks are of adequate thickness, but not Monster standard. The entire cable is 8 feet long and has a rubbery matte-gray texture along its entire length. The SCART plug is of course trapezoid shaped and will only connect in one direction, so there is no fear of attaching the plug incorrectly.
Overall if you have any form of display with a VGA input, the Xbox 360 VGA HD AV Cable should be your first choice for image quality.
Not the Best but Good Enough May 30, 2008 This cable allows you to connect your Xbox 360 to any monitor with a VGA input (female). If you have an auxiliary right/left composite input on your sound card you can connect the sound to your PC speakers. It comes with a female to female VGA connector and a composite sound to 3.5mm jack connector for those that need them. The quality of resolutions is greater than that of a Standard Definition Television but not a s great as a High Definition Television but it with vary between the quality and type of monitor you use. This is a good investment for the PC heavy gamers that also love to play the Xbox 360.
My experience with the cables & specs of my setup May 22, 2008 As other reviews have noted, experiences with these cables seems to have varied greatly based on the setup, settings options available, and technical familiarity of the users. Therefore I'm going to focus on the details of my setup & settings as I think that's more helpful than just telling you it looks good.
-I have an older Xbox 360 that lacks HMDI output
-My TV is a Samsung LN-T2353H. It's a 23 inch tv and is on the higher end of Samsung's current product line so it's got some extra tools & features some TVs might not. The tv's resolution is 1366 x 768
-After hooking up the vga cable to my 360 & tv, I powered on my 360 and went into console's display options. I selected a display resolution of 1360 x 768 since it's so darn close to my tv's resolution.
-I used Assassin's Creed as my evaluation's source material. The incoming signal being 1360 x 768, my TV greyed out all but the 4:3 & 16:9 screen size options. The 4:3 size looked distorted(obviously) and the 16:9 looked to be a perfect fit(as expected).
-It already looked pretty good, but I knew my TV had a "game mode" option so I went into the menu & activated it. My own unsophisticated observation was that the screen darkened a bit when I activated game mode, and I did think it looked a little bit better. Having this feature might have helped me sidestep the "washed out" issues some reported with these cords.
Overall I'm happy I went with this cable and I'm more than satisfied with the image quality it generates on my TV.
